That’s why I’m so focused on creating jobs and making government more responsive to the people, as Lieutenant Governor. ”In January 2008, Mitch Landrieu was inaugurated for a second term as Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana. Landrieu acts as the CEO of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, managing more than 800 employees and a $127 million budget. The Lt. Governor serves as a member of the Unified Command Group in the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Implementation Commission, and a member of the State Bond Commission. He acts as an ambassador for the state, representing Louisiana on national and international economic development missions.
Landrieu is the leader of the state’s tourism industry, which accounts for 150,000 jobs in Louisiana. In the last five years, he has managed a significant $50 million investment in state parks. He created the cultural economy initiative to grow jobs through culture. Today, the cultural economy accounts for 144,000 jobs in our state. Landrieu is a strong advocate for citizen service and launched the Office of Social Entrepreneurship to help find new solutions to some of our state’s toughest challenges.
